Ingredients:
12 thick slices day-old, white bread
4 eggs
2 sticks unsalted butter, cubed and chilled
1 1/4 C heavy cream
1 C brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, divided
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp nutmeg
powdered sugar, garnish
Directions:
Spray a 9x5 loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray, Set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well.
Cut bread slices into 1 1/2 inch wide strips. Place a layer of bread strips inside loaf pan.
Sprinkle 1/3 of brown sugar mixture over layer of bread. Add 1/3 of butter cubes evenly on top.
Repeat with another 2 layers of bread, sugar, and butter. Press down on bread, with your hand, to compact.
In a large bowl, beat eggs, heavy cream, vanilla, and remaining cinnamon.
Pour batter slowly over loaf, allowing time for bread to absorb all the liquid. Pay attention to corners of the pan.
Cover pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 325 F degrees.
Remove plastic wrap and cover pan with aluminum foil. Place on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 1 hour.
Uncover and bake another 20-25 minutes.
Let cool for 10 minutes. Turn out onto a serving plate.
Slice and serve, garnished with powdered sugar.
